SC State Has Spirit and Sound

We got spirit yes we do and our Marching 101 has the sound too! Two very important programs at SC State that provides the University with some of the most spirit are the Marching 101 Band and the South Carolina State University Cheerleaders.

Without these two groups football games, pep rallies, basketball games, and other special events would not be the same! Check out our Kizoa as we take the time to appreciate our school's marching band and cheerleaders.

Pin It Up

Pinterest is an online social media web page and application that allows it's users to pin similar interests for inspiration.

Most photos on Pinterest are linked to a URL that redirects you a different website related to the photo. For example, if you wanted a specific recipe, then you could click the photo and it will redirect you the recipe on its official site.

Some boards on my Pinterest include Fall Fashion, Future Dream Home, My Wedding, College Style, and Natural Hair. I created these different boards because all of these topics interest me.

My favorite boards would have to my Future Dream Home and College Style. I've always been into interior design and architecture, so looking at houses and deciding what I want my future home to look like is exciting to me.

I also like College Style because it helps me organize and develop my sense of style. I like to match up outfits I pin with clothes I have in my closet, and I will sometimes try to find the exact same item and buy it for myself.

One thing I enjoy about Pinterest is that I can look up almost anything and find what i was looking for or find something similar. I also like how the home pages brings up photos, boards, and pins of things I'm interested in or have searched before. The only thing I don't like about Pinterest  is the inability to customize my profile with a color other than white.

Thean The Dream

Colorful, that’s all I can see physically and spiritually when she walks into a room. Her aura has an infinite range of colors, and her unique style strikes your attention to the point where you can’t help but stare at this walking rainbow. Athena is known as the Goddess of wisdom and useful arts in Greek mythology. Ironically, Athena Hamilton possess a wise mind beyond her age and she is artistically capable of almost anything.

Athena is native of Savannah GA., and she is currently studying Journalism here at SC State. After college she aspires to either a writer for an entertainment magazine, a public relations specialist, a lyricist, or a new producer.During her free time Athena enjoys reading, writing, playing drums, listening and making music, and helpings others.

Athena has one older brother who is also one of her biggest life motivators. Narada inspired Athena to “pick up an instrument and join the marching band”. Athena has been marching for many years and has been a part of the Marching 101 since her freshman year. Within the band she is a member of Red Dawg and Bongo Brothers Inc.

Her brother is a former member of the Marching 101 and is very well known among others. Athena has a very close relationship with Narada and is thankful that he pushed her to join the band which is something she cherishes.

Another one of Athena’s biggest motivators is J Cole. She said, “he helped mold her as a writer and an artist, and he inspired her to help make a difference in the world.” She also mentioned how J Cole was one reasons why she attended college in the first place. Her favorite quote from J Cole is “If they don’t know your dreams then they can’t shoot them down.”

In 5 years Athena sees herself starting a charity or a non-profit organization to get young people interested in creative careers and help promote self-awareness and self-growth. She wants to be a beacon of light for young children and inspire them just like J Cole inspired her.

Athena also mentioned how in 5 years she wouldn’t mind producing for a television network or music company and being able to write music for other artists.

Nothing stops Athena from obtaining anything she puts her mind to. No matter how hard or long the road gets she will always end up on top. Athena is a dream chaser, and I guess that’s why the call her Thean the Dream.

Tweet, Like, Retweet...Repeat!

Twitter Logo

Twitter is a great application that allows people’s creative thoughts to be shared globally. You can literally post anything on twitter from quotes to pictures to videos. I personally use twitter to write things I think about and to get a good laugh in every day. I like sharing information from current news around the world to funny videos from famous people.
Picture of my Twitter Feed or Timeline
Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey. He started thinking about the software he built at a young age by analyzing trains and maps. Studying trains made him obsessed with learning how things work in the real world and translating them to the virtual world.

He was also intrigued by the messages translated by emergency dispatchers. He liked how they talked about where they were going and what they were doing by using code words or short phrases; this way of communicating inspired him to create Twitter.

Twitter has become mainstream because almost everyone uses it on a daily basis. Even the president and the Pope have twitter accounts. However, I do think Donald Trump does post too much on twitter and most times his tweets are unnecessary and negative.

Some people I follow on twitter are my peers, ArianaGrande, Big Sean, Demetrius Harmon and Jay Versace. I follow Ariana Grande and Big Sean because they are two of my favorite music artists and I like to keep tabs on them to see when new music drops. I follow Demetrius Harmon and Jay Versace because they are very funny, and I know that whenever I need too laugh or smile they will always do a good job.

Summer For The Win

This past summer was a very exciting, productive, eye-opening one for me. I spent most of summer working with SC State’s University Marketing and Relations Department. I was given the opportunity to learn more about public relations and get some experience in business marketing.
Me and Some Other Interns on Our First Day
This summer I was also able to attend the NASAP StudentLeadership Institute. I was given the opportunity to meet many student leaders from different HBCU’s across the nation.  I made many connections and friendships that are still going strong today.
Student Media, CAB, SGA, and Royal Court at  Savannah State University for NASAP
Lastly, the best and most fun part of my summer was when went on our family cruise. Every time someone on my mom’s side of the family graduates from college we go on a  Carnival cruise. This was our final graduation cruise because my youngest cousin graduated from high school. We went to Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and St. Thomas.

Are You LinkedIn?

Here is my profile picture

LinkedIn is a social media website used for professional and business purposes. LinkedIn is a popular because it helps build and strengthen connections with people who have similar interests and occupations. Click here to check out my profile!

Some features I enjoy from the website are the jobs and my network tabs. The jobs tab shows me
what jobs I may be interested in my field, and it also shows what companies I may want to work with based off my connections. My network shows me everyone I’m connected with and mutual connections I may want to follow.

I also like how you can personalize your profile to show your skills and to show your previous occupations. One thing I would like to convey with my page is to show companies my skills and interest, and let them know I willing to work for them.

The 81st Miss SC State, Teonna Breland, has her LinkedIn account set up very nicely. She has a short paragraph describing who she is when you first click on her page. Then she goes on to list her experience, education, volunteer experience, skills, and interests. Click Here to check out her page!

Hurricane Florence...The Scam?

Honestly, my experience with Hurricane Florence was a whole scam. Now I'm not saying the storm wasn't deadly and didn't do major damage, I'm just saying that we didn't get any bad weather where I was located.

During the hurricane I went home to Concord NC, which are the suburbs outside of Charlotte. I was under the impression that we were going to get some really bad rain, flooding, and power outages because part of the storm was suppose to be over my city.

But low and behold, we only got mild rain for one night...yes one night. Now mind you, we left campus the Wednesday before the storm hit and it didn't start raining until Sunday!!

When I tell you I was bored during our little hurricane break. All I did was watch Netflix, eat, and sleep. The weather was practically the same in Orangeburg...like we could've stayed in school and had hurricane parties or something lol. However, I will not complain that the storm wasn't too bad. And if you're reading this and the storm did hit your hometown heavy, I hope your able to have a quick and speedy recovery!

Who Is JMcCrea?

So, who is Jaelyn McCrea you might ask. I like to define myself as authentic and unique. Often times people describe me as goofy, smart, beautiful, social, weird, funny, etc.

On campus I am a member of the SC State Cheering Team, the President of Student Media, a presidential scholar in honors college, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, videography, watching television, traveling, and socializing. Also, I am starting my own YouTube channel this year. My videos will consist of HBCU vlog series and other creative content along the way.

After college I aspire to be a television producer. There’s something about the work that goes on behind the scenes that fascinates me about television production. This school year I plan on sharping my skills and hopefully produce some new content with student media.
